# **FCDO Delegation Visits Model Health Facility Fighting FGM in Nairagie Enkare**

A delegation from the **Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO)** recently visited a **model health facility in Nairagie Enkare**, funded by the FCDO and established by the **Africa Centre for Abandonment of FGM (ACCAF)**. This facility is a significant milestone in the fight against **Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)** and serves as a vital training ground for medical students.

The model facility plays a **dual role**—providing essential healthcare services to the community while equipping **future healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills** needed to tackle FGM. The initiative reflects a strong **collaborative effort between ACCAF, the Ministry of Health, universities, and international partners** to eliminate the harmful practice.

According to **Professor Samwel Kimani**, ACCAF has trained **over 2,000 students** in universities across Kenya, ensuring that medical professionals are well-equipped to handle FGM-related cases. Additionally, ACCAF has played a key role in **developing a national training manual** for healthcare workers in partnership with the **Ministry of Health**.

Speaking at the visit, **Professor Patrick Ndavi** emphasized the importance of partnerships in the fight against FGM:
*”We thank our partners because without them, we would not have done much in the fight against FGM.”*

**Dr. Jecinta Muteshi** echoed this sentiment, stating:
*”What we have seen here should become a model across the continent. The skills gained here should be taken across Africa to strengthen efforts against FGM.”*

The impact of the facility extends beyond training, as noted by the **Medical Superintendent at Nairagie Enkare Level 4 Hospital**:
*”The model has increased health-seeking behavior in the area, meaning the training by ACCAF has had a major impact.”*

The **FCDO delegation** commended the efforts, calling for government adoption of the model to scale up the fight against FGM:
*”Thanks for the work you are doing. Let this be taken up by the government to end FGM.”*
